Long-term collaboration with stability, security, and scalability in mind.
Energinet is an independent public enterprise under the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Utilities. It owns and develops the electrical and gas grids in Denmark, working to increase the share of renewable energy, maintain security of supply, and ensure fair market access. Since the start of our partnership in 2021, Kruso has maintained and further developed Energinet’s critical solutions, including web applications, various data visualizations, and their CMS platform.
Energinet handles crucial data on Denmark’s electricity and gas imports and exports – critical infrastructure where any downtime or errors could cause widespread concern. Consequently, all solutions must meet very strict security requirements.
For that reason, Kruso migrated Energinet’s website from Azure Cloud to Curanet, a Danish hosting provider, ensuring compliance with EU regulations such as the GDPR.
Due to these high security demands, Energinet’s CMS also needed an update. When Kruso first took over, Energinet was operating on a Sitecore solution. In 2021–22, we migrated their websites to Umbraco 8, but security support for that version will end in 2025. To stay ahead of the End-of-Life date, we upgraded the solution in fall 2024 to Umbraco 13 – its latest version with long-term support. With this move, Energinet now benefits from all of Umbraco 13’s improvements along with extended security support.
In 2025, Kruso took over responsibility for the central “Energy Map,” which shows Denmark’s electricity and gas imports and exports across borders. Beyond the Energy Map, Kruso now also manages five mission-critical visualizations for the Gas Storage Denmark website, gasstorage.dk. As a subsidiary of Energinet, Gas Storage Denmark stores natural gas in underground facilities. These visualizations display real-time capacity data, helping gas suppliers assess available storage. When Kruso assumed responsibility for them, we also updated the visualizations and fixed minor issues.
To deliver an even better user experience and rapid access to critical information, Kruso implemented the TypeSense search engine, providing quick and accurate search results.
A dedicated Kruso team – comprising a project manager, front-end developers, and back-end developers – collaborates closely with Energinet on new initiatives and enhancements, ensuring the solution remains continuously updated and optimized.
By upgrading to Umbraco 13, Energinet has gained a future-proof platform characterized by high stability and minimal downtime. As a result, critical energy data is accessible around the clock for both the public as well as professional gas suppliers, reinforcing overall energy security.
Ongoing vulnerability scans and updates performed by Kruso keep the solution robust. In short, Energinet now has a stable, scalable, and secure platform, supporting their continued efforts toward a greener and more reliable energy supply in Denmark.
