Future-proof upgrade of security and user experience.
Teknisk Landsforbund is a trade union for approximately 30,000 technicians, designers, and draftsmen. Teknikernes A-kasse is also part of Teknisk Landsforbund.
Since 1919, Teknisk Landsforbund has secured better wage and working conditions and is now also working to promote green transition and sustainable growth, strengthen educations and good working life, and achieve strong, solidary, and active labor market policies.
Even technically experienced individuals can get caught in technological stagnation. That was the case when Teknisk Landsforbund's digital platform, Umbraco 7, stood on the brink of obsolescence. Determined to protect security and stability, Teknisk Landsforbund refused to accept anything less than the optimal solution.
Umbraco will cease security updates for the platform in September 2023, which is why we chose to migrate the solution to Umbraco 10, which will continue to receive security updates.
The solution's login system for the member area was intricate and created unnecessary confusion. Members followed different paths and groped bewilderedly for the desired information. Generally, the problem was that members were led around in different systems, each with their visual expression, making it difficult to get an overview of courses, professional information, and unemployment insurance fund information.
It was not possible to create deep links into the member system, meaning that members had to log in multiple times to perform their tasks. Therefore, the user experience was not optimal.
In the summer of 2022, Teknisk Landsforbund initiated the project with a vision to improve the user experience so the user only experiences one design expression across all systems. Through iterative workshops, the design took shape and culminated in a visual framework that was approved in February 2023. This creative effort was unfolded in collaboration with Creative Zoo, who participated in weekly status meetings throughout the project.
Kruso took on the role as the technical partner and brought the visual expression to reality. The content was migrated from Umbraco 7 to Umbraco 10, and before the migration of the content, the agreed page types and their fields were paired with page types and fields on the new website. The migration could therefore be automated and carried out in several stages.
The greatest value lies in our close collaboration with TL and CreativeZoo. Without it, we would have an Umbraco upgrade without depth and value for the end user.
Courses are retrieved from an external course system (FIUSYS) via an API and integrated into a general course overview and an overview for each member of registered courses.
The website contains a list of relevant jobs, which are retrieved from a joint job bank that searches for professional jobs in several job databases.
Logging in to the new solution provides access to all systems with one login, which is controlled by MitID, via OpenID Connect from the Føniks member system.
Central information from the Føniks member system is retrieved via API and presented directly on the front page of the member area.
Members' outlays for transport can be reported to TL’s financial system, zExpense, directly through the member area.
The intranet is set up as a subsite and is closed off, so only the staff can see it. The login is linked with TL's employee system (AD), so all employees have single sign-on and can view the areas they have rights to.
The new tl.dk was launched along with a general launch of the Technical Union's new identity, including a new logo, colors, and fonts.
Members have not just received a new website but an entirely new look. In the coming months, we will monitor the site's performance, and we expect that users will be able to communicate and serve themselves on tl.dk faster and more easily.
