Data Quality #2: Why good product data is also critical in B2B

Good data doesn’t just benefit the final link – it creates value throughout the entire supply chain.

Data Quality #1: Data quality drives sales and customer satisfaction Krusader's Talk

Have you read my first insight?

In my previous insight, I explored what constitutes good data quality and how it plays a central role in boosting sales and customer satisfaction for e-commerce businesses. But it doesn’t stop there.

Even if you’re not selling directly to consumers, your product data remains absolutely essential to the entire value chain you’re part of.

The journey of data through the value chain

Imagine you manufacture solar panels. You pass on your products and data to a company like Grundfos, which needs this information for ESG reporting and to document their efforts to their own customers and partners. Those customers, in turn, need data so they can give their customers – ultimately the consumers – the information they require.

Just one weak link in the data chain can throw the entire system off course. If you fail to provide complete, up-to-date, and accurate data, your customers won’t be able to meet their own requirements, and the issues will cascade down the line.

Legislation, accountability, and transparency

Regulations and legal requirements are continually tightening, as is the demand for transparent supply chains. It’s no longer enough to have your own house in order; you must be able to prove it to your customers, authorities, and stakeholders. Inadequate data quality can cost you both business and reputation if you fail to meet demands for documentation, sustainability, and traceability.

Technological developments are raising the stakes

New technologies like AI and legal requirements such as the Digital Product Passport are poised to become standard across many industries. They require high-quality data to deliver real business benefits. If you want to leverage AI to optimize your processes, your data must be accurate, consistent, and easy to share.

The Digital Product Passport makes it possible to follow a product through its entire lifecycle – but only if all players in the chain contribute trustworthy and up-to-date information.

I’ve partnered with DynamicWeb to create a mini-series about the Digital Product Passport, so check it out if you’d like to learn more about what it is and how to get started.

How to future-proof your business

Data quality is no longer a luxury – it's a critical competitive factor that secures your company’s position in the market. When you invest in solid data infrastructure and standardized processes, you’re investing in future-readiness. In my next insight, I’ll walk you through how a robust Product Information Management (PIM) system can help you optimize data quality, so you can stay ahead in a world of escalating requirements and intensified competition.

Stay tuned – and get ready to take your data quality to the next level.Â
